Completed a master's degree in forestry science at the Faculty of Agriculture, Shinshu University. Worked for a greening company and an organic fertilizer company before setting up his own business in 2001. In 2005, he designed, constructed, and taught permaculture at Expo 2005 Aichi, Japan. In 2007, he moved to Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, where he continues to experiment with living in the smallest unit of society, the family. He is a lecturer at Permaculture Center Japan, a part-time lecturer at Tohoku University of Art & Design, and a “Mori Satoyama Kawaumi Ambassador” for the Ministry of the Environment. He has designed and supervised the “Inochi no Tsunagari Project” at KURKKU FIELDS in Kisarazu, Chiba Prefecture and Kazakoshi Gakuen in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture. He is the author of “Chikyu Saisei-gata Seikatsu-ki” (“Chikyu Saisei-gata Seikatsu-ki”), “Chikyu no Kurashi no ehon” (“Chikyu no Kurashi no ehon”), and other books.
